You would have to be 21 years old instead of 18 to buy cigarettes under a bill passed by the Illinois Senate on Wednesday. Supporters say the younger you start smoking, the more likely you are to develop a deadly habit. But, others-like State Senator Kyle McCarter-say adults should be able to make their own decisions.
California and Hawaii both have similar laws. This measure now moves to the Illinois House for approval.
