Seven members of the Vandalia Jr. High track team extended their season for another week earning spots at this coming weekend’s IESA Class AA State Track Meet. The 7th grade girls 4×100 relay team of Miley Worker, Jadie Keck, Gracie Pruett and Lauren Hagy earned the team’s only Sectional championship at Saturday’s Hillsboro Sectional with a first place finish to qualify for State. Worker and Hagy also qualified for State in individual events after Hagy took 2nd place in the 100m Dash with a state qualifying time of :13.4 and Worker cleared the state qualifying standard of 6’ 9” in the pole vault.
For the boys, 8th grader Cameron Withers easily surpassed the qualifying standard of 9’3” with a best height on the day of 10’ 3” that was also good for 2nd place in the Sectionals. 7th grader Hayden Marquardt also easily surpassed the 7th grade qualifying standard in the pole vault to finish 2nd and advance to State.
The IESA Class AA State Track Meet will be held this Friday and Saturday at the Eastside Centre in East Peoria. Worker and Marquardt will each compete in the pole vault on Friday with the 7th grade girls pole vault beginning Friday morning at 11am with 7th grade boys pole vault to immediately follow. Hagy will compete in the 100m Dash prelims at 5pm on Friday evening. Withers will compete in the pole vault beginning at 9am on Saturday morning with the 7th grade girls 4×100 relay set to compete at about 11am on Saturday morning.
