The IESA Class A State Track Meet kicked off on Friday in East Peoria and Brownstown-St. Elmo hauled in two top 5 finishes on the first day of action. Eighth grader Claire Wilhour, who won the 7th grade 400m Dash a year ago, won her second 400m Dash Championship in a row with a time of 1:00.40. Teammate Cassidy Moss wasn’t far behind though as she finished in 5th place with a time of 1:03.23. Both girls also competed in the preliminary and semifinal rounds of the 100m Hurdles coming out with the top two times heading into tomorrow morning’s Finals. Moss and Wilhour are guaranteed of another medal each just by being in the Finals.
Seventh grader Kaylie Curry finished in a five-way tie for 9th place in the high jump with a jump of 4’ 6” and seventh grader Josie Strauch finished the long jump with a leap of 14’ 3.75” for 20th place. In the 8th grade long jump, Moss finished with a jump of 14’ 9” for 20th place while Wilhour jumped 14’ 5.5” for 26th place. In the 8th grade discus, Natalie Oberlink had a toss of 65’ for 29th place.
On the boy’s side, BSE seventh grader Jace McWhorter ran a 1:01.81 in the 400m Dash to place 27th.
In action today at the meet, the Hurdle and 100m Finals will be ran as well as the finals of the 4×200, 4×100, 4×400 relays, the 200m Dash, the 800m Run as well boys field events.
