The possibility of education funding reform is advancing in the Illinois General Assembly this spring. The Illinois Senate earlier this week passed Senate Bill 231, which is would phase in a new funding formula for education in the state of Illinois. The sponsor of the legislation is State Senator Andy Manar of Bunker Hill. Senator Manar, along with a group of school administrators including Vandalia Superintendent of Schools Rich Well, have been working on coming up with a new funding formula plan for the past several years. So, Senator Manar says getting this measure approved by the Senate is certainly a positive development.
The legislation now moves to the Illinois House. The bill does have it’s critics and we’ll talk about some of those criticisms with Senator Manar coming up on Monday during NewsCenter.
