(St. Louis, MO) — Jung Ho Kang launched two home runs in his season-debut to lead the Pirates past the Cardinals, 4-2, at Busch Stadium. Kang hammered a two-run homer in the in the sixth, followed by a solo-shot in the eighth after being activated off the disabled list earlier in the day. Francisco Liriano fanned 10 batters in seven innings of work to grab the win for Pittsburgh, which snapped a four-game losing streak. St. Louis got within one on a sac-fly from Ruben Tejada in the seventh. Carlos Martinez couldn’t get through four innings as the Cards fell back to .500 at 15-and-15 overall.
Cubs Beat Nationals
(Chicago, IL) — Ben Zobrist hit two of the Cub’s four homers in an 8-6 win over the Nationals at Wrigley Field. Tommy La Stella and Anthony Rizzo also homered for Chicago, which built an 8-2 lead and hung on for its fifth straight win. John Lackey struck out 11 while allowing just two runs in seven innings to move to 4-and-1. Hector Rondon worked the ninth for his fifth save as the Cubs improved to 22-and-6. Anthony Rendon and Wilson Ramos homered for Washington, and Daniel Murphy went 4-for-4. Max Scherzer was rocked for seven runs in five frames to fall to 3-and-2.
