(Springfield, IL) — Illinois won’t be transitioning to a graduated income tax system anytime soon. Representative Christian Mitchell decided not to call the bill to a vote because he didn’t have enough votes to pass the proposed constitutional amendment. Under the plan, residents would have been taxed based on their income levels. That means the wealthiest people in the state would have see their rates go up.
