Lawmakers are considering a new method for how their districts are drawn. The Illinois House approved a legislative remap amendment which removes lawmakers from the process, and sets up an independent commission to do the job. The measure is sponsored by State Representative Jack Franks who says the map should no longer be drawn by politicians who have a vested interest in the outcome.
The Senate has already approved a different remap amendment. They need to be passed by both chambers to be put to the voters on the November ballot.
