(Chicago, IL) — Five convicted sex offenders have filed suit against state laws requiring them to register with police. The federal suit claims that the state’s sex offender registry statutes are so vague that they violate the offenders’ constitutional rights to free speech, religion and to organize their family affairs. One of the plaintiffs says he’s so afraid of violating the law that he can’t play golf at courses owned by park districts, even if no children are present. The suit wants the registry laws overturned. There’s no comment so far from the Attorney General’s office.
