Darrel N. Sharp, 81 of Patoka, passed away Friday, April 29, 2016 at Odin Healthcare Center.
He was born May 30, 1934 in Boulder, IL, son of Elza Sharp and Lula (Skaggs) Sharp. He married Bonnie Crawford on June 30, 1954 and she survives.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, he is also survived by three children: Cindy Smith and husband Melvin of Vandalia, Darla Robinson and husband Tom of Vandalia, and Darin Sharp and wife Stacey of Salem; nine grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; two sisters: Lela Briley and husband Jerry of Joplin, MO and Velma Trisler and husband Charlie of California; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son: Lonny R. Sharp, a grandson: Brighton Sharp, five brothers: Marion Sharp, Elza Sharp, Jr., Lewis Dale Sharp, Frances Sharp, and Orval Sharp, three sisters: Lillie Smith, Betty Nelson, and Freda Hayden, and two infant brothers: Russell Sharp and Herbert Sharp.
Darrel retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation. He was a member of the Patoka United Methodist Church in Patoka. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, watching basketball and baseball. Darrel was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
A Memorial Service for Darrel Sharp will be held Monday, May 2, 2016 at 5:00 PM at the Patoka United Methodist Church in Patoka with Rev. Rick Atchley officiating. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the church. Memorial donations may be made to the Patoka Ambulance Fund or to the Patoka United Methodist Church and will be accepted at the Hillcrest Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Centralia, which is assisting the family with arrangements.
