(Chicago, IL) — Supporters of a bipartisan effort to change the way Illinois political boundaries are drawn say they have more than enough petition signatures to get a spot on the November ballot. Under the Independent Map Amendment, the power to draw legislative district lines would be taken away from the legislature and given to an independent 11-member commission chosen through a multi-step process. Backers say they’ve gathered more than twice the two-hundred-90-thousand signatures needed to put the proposed constitutional amendment before the voters in November 8.
