(Springfield, IL) — There are signs that the state budget impasse is having an impact on tourism in Illinois. State hotel tax receipts for January were down 15-percent compared with last year, and consumer inquiries about visiting Illinois are down 84-percent for the first three months of the year. John Groh of the Rockford Convention and Visitors Bureau told the “Register-Star” that the projected decline can be traced to the shutoff of state funds used to promote tourism in Illinois.
