A 46-year old St. Elmo man is facing two charges related to his status as a child sex offender. Gerald E. Allen is charged with unlawful residence of a child sex offender as he is alleged to “knowingly resided within 500 feet of the St. Elmo Grade School” as well as a charge of unlawful presence within a school zone as he is also alleged to “knowingly was present within 100 feet of Oak and 2nd Street in St. Elmo” which is a “site posted as a pick-up or discharge stop for a school bus” or an area that is used “to transport students to or from school when one or more persons under the age of 18 years was present at the site.” Each charge is a Class 4 Felony. Allen has been appointed a public defender after an appearance in Fayette County Court on Tuesday. Bond in the matter has been set at $10,000. Allen’s first appearance with counsel is set for May 3 at 10am.
