(Springfield, IL) — State Trooper Bryce Benton not only lost his recent Republican primary fight against incumbent Plainfield State Senator Sam McCann, he also lost a day’s pay. Benton was given a one-day suspension because pictures of him in uniform appeared in his campaign literature and TV ads — a violation of state police policies. Benton was backed by Governor Rauner and got three-million-dollars worth of advertising from a conservative PAC called Liberty Principles, which gets much of its funding from real estate billionaire Sam Zell and U-line founder Dick Uihlein.
