(San Diego, CA) — The Cardinals scored 10 runs late to hammer the Padres, 11-2, in San Diego. Cardinals’ rookie Aledmys Diaz was 5-for-5, including two RBIs. The Cardinals trailed the Padres 2-1 until their offense woke up in the seventh inning. Jeremy Hazelbaker and Jedd Gyorko each had three-run home runs for St. Louis, which has won two of three. Melvin Upton Jr. and Alexei Ramirez knocked in the only runs for San Diego. Kevin Quackenbush took the loss for the Padres.
(Cincinnati, OH) — The Reds scored seven runs in the sixth inning in a dominant 13-5 win over the Cubs in Cincinnati. Eugenio Suarez led the Reds with three hits, four RBIs, and three runs scored, including a three-run blast in the sixth. Adam Duvall added a three-run homer of his own in the sixth. The 13 runs scored by the Reds were a season high. Chicago led 1-0 and 3-2, but it was almost all Cincy from there. The Cubs failed to match their best start since 1907 with the loss.
