(Springfield, IL) — Illinois‘ public employees can count on their pensions, but not their missing paychecks. The state’s Supreme Court ruled in favor of Governor Bruce Rauner yesterday, saying state workers aren’t entitled to back-pay because there’s still not a state budget to cover the late paychecks. State workers sued former Governor Pat Quinn over the money, but lawmakers haven’t ordered the payment. The high court says without an appropriation, the state doesn’t have to pay.
