(Atkinson, IL) — Two downstate counties are warning lawmakers they will close their schools if they don’t get help from Springfield. School leaders in rural Stark and Henry counties say they can’t keep covering the costs for things the state should be paying for. Geneseo Superintendent Scott Kuffel says it’s no longer “if, but when” the doors will close.
