(Chicago, IL) — Illinois U.S. Senator Mark Kirk is the first Republican to break rank and call for a vote on President Obama’s Supreme Court justice pick. Obama last week nominated Judge Merrick Garland to replace recently-deceased Justice Antonin Scalia after Republican Senate leaders had vowed to block any action on the issue in Obama’s final year in office. Kirk released a statement telling his fellow senators to “man up” and vote.
