Congressman John Shimkus will run in the General Election in November for an 11th term in office. Shimkus was a big winner in Tuesday’s primary election, as he defeated State Senator Kyle McCarter by better than 25,000 voters in the 15th Congressional District—taking better than 60 percent of the vote—in his Republican primary win. Shimkus will now run for an 11th term in Congress in the November General Election. As of this time, there is no Democrat candidate in the 15th. As for Fayette County, Senator McCarter took the county by 197 votes—with McCarter getting 2052 votes and Shimkus with 1855 votes.
Fayette County District 5 Board Member Darrell Schaal will run for another term on the board in November. Schaal defeated Sara Whitehead, 391 to 184, in the Republican Primary on Tuesday.
