(Springfield, IL) — A new survey finds that Illinois still has the second-highest property taxes in the nation, behind only New Jersey. The personal finance website WalletHub said the average effective property tax rate in Illinois is two-point-25-percent, slightly less than New Jersey’s two-point-29-percent. Hawaii has the lowest effective tax rate at zero-point-28-percent, but the average home in Hawaii costs nearly three times the price of an average Illinois house.
