(Springfield, IL) — Governor Rauner today praised the members of his Criminal Justice and Sentencing Reform Commission for developing a package of bills he says will reduce prison admissions and help break the cycle of recidivism. The bipartisan commission outlined bills that will send fewer first-time offenders to prison, will expand the use of electronic monitoring and will give released inmates a special state ID to help them re-enter society. One commission member, Chicago state Senator Kwame Raoul, said this bipartisan collaborative effort should be extended to other issues.
