(Springfield, IL) — The state is setting records for the number of gun purchases. The Chicago “Sun-Times” reports the state police carried out four-hundred-18-thousand background checks on gun buyers last year, compared with one-hundred-62-thousand in 2005. The number of background checks done in December was a record for that month, as were the numbers done in June, August and November of last year. Retailers point to the state’s concealed carry law and recent mass shootings as two of the reasons for the jump in gun sales.
