Ulavon Fern ‘Bonnie’ Haslett, 89, of Brownstown, passed away at 12:18 a.m., Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Ulavon Fern ‘Bonnie’ Haslett was born on Thursday, May 20, 1926 in Patoka, IL to Morton and Ida (Cox) Walker. She married Louis K. Haslett on Friday, September 21, 1945 and they enjoyed 69 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on Wednesday, August 19, 2015. They raised 4 children in Brownstown. Bonnie enjoyed being a homemaker and worked for several years at Vandalia Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide. She enjoyed attending and working with the First Christian Church of Brownstown where she was a member for many years. Many of her friends have preceded her in death, so there must be a big “gab fest” going on in Heaven right now. Two important lessons she taught her family were “Learn to see the funny side of life and how to laugh at yourself.”
Bonnie is survived by; her daughter, Charlene Case and her husband Steve of Moweaqua; sons, Larry Haslett and his wife Libby of Columbus, Georgia and Brad Haslett and his wife Fan of Collierville, Tennessee; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 4 step- great- grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by; her husband; son, Gary Ray Haslett; parents; 4 sisters and 5 brothers.
Celebration of Life Services will be at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 28, 2016 at the First Christian Church, Brownstown with Kendall Bopp and Shawn Case officiating. Burial will follow at Griffith Cemetery, Brownstown. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until service time on Sunday. Memorials may be to the First Christian Church.
