(Carbondale, IL) — Governor Rauner’s proposed 2017 budget would be bad news for Southern Illinois University, according to the school’s president. Randy Dunn says the 40-million-dollar cut in funding called for in Rauner’s plan would force a “wholesale ending of programs” at the school’s three campuses. SIU, like all of the state’s public colleges and universities, have gone eight months without state funds because of the budget impasse. Dunn says Rauner’s plan would compound the problems the school already faces.
