Fayette County Sheriff Chris Smith says, if you don’t have to be out, it would be a good idea to stay off the roads today. Sheriff Smith says that slow travel, keeping at 40 miles per hour or less, is really the only way to go at this time. Sheriff Smith says the Interstate, both east and west bound, is pretty clear at this point. But, he says other main roads—such as U.S. Route 40, U.S. Route 51 and Illinois Route 185, are covered with deep slush at this time, which is slowing travel. There are some power outages in different areas of the county, with power lines down on County Road 900 north and on County Road 2800 on Illinois Route 128. Sheriff Smith also reminds every that if you have to be out make sure to have your headlights on.
