Darrell “JR” Carroll, Jr., age 69 of Mountain Rest, SC formerly of Salem and Vandalia, passed away at Greenville Memorial Hospital on February 14, 2016. Darrell had worked as a plant manager at various textile plants, throughout his career. Darrell enjoyed dragging his children to vacations disguised as Corvette rallies, restoring Corvettes, stock car racing, trivia, giving everyone nicknames, trivia, and practical jokes.
A Celebration of Life service will be held from 4pm to 6pm on Thursday, March 3 at the Country Club in Salem, IL. The family requests everyone come casually dressed with stories about Darrell. Interment will be at a later date at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family and sent to 300 E. Boone St., Salem, IL.
Darrell is survived by his wife Ann (Grossman) of Mountain Rest, SC. He is also survived by his children, sons: Chris Carroll and Darren Carroll (Alyssa); and daughter: Monica Burge. Also surviving are his step-sons: Daniel Bowers and Jaret Bowers; brother: Bobby Joe Carroll (Delores); sister: DeeDee Freeman (Dale); grandchildren: Alex Carroll (Chrissie), Nick Carroll, Vincent Ventigli, Brenda Sue Bowers, and Krystin Bowers; and great-grandchildren: Alijah, Remington, and Brady. He also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Darrell was born on January 24, 1947 to Darrell G. Carroll, Sr. and Dorothy Wilson (Koehler) Carroll. He married Rena Ann (Long) Carroll in 1966 and they later divorced. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Charles (Skip) Carroll.
