Tax season is here and along with it comes an increase in phone and other scams where brazen individuals pose as IRS agents and other government officials. The Vandalia Police Department has received reports of residents receiving calls with threats from the fake individuals asking for money and threatening jail time and legal recourse. With other scams being discovered recently by the Fayette County State’s Attorney’s Office, they are again reminding people that personal information should never be given over the phone as the IRS, government and banks will not ask for such info over the phone.
Any person that suspects that they are being targeted by scammers should alert law enforcement officials.
