Three Vandals wrestlers won preliminary round bouts Thursday to advance to the Championship Quarterfinals of the IHSA 1A Individual State Tournament at the State Farm Center in Champaign. At 113 pounds, freshman Tanner Swain defeated Marshawn Walker of Chicago Robeson by Decision 7-0. He will now face Alec Henze of Dakota in the quarterfinals. At 195 pounds, senior Bobby Bradley beat Jack Breedlove of Kewanee by Decision, 3-2 in the prelims. He now takes on Riley Kauzlaric of Coal City in the quarterfinals. And at 285 pounds, senior Kendrick Woolsey beat Brian McNeil of Chicago Robeson by Fall in 3:01 to advance. He will face Ricky Cantu of Knoxville.
Four Vandals wrestlers will now have to wait until tomorrow mornings quarterfinals to see if they will earn a spot in the first round of wrestlebacks after they fell in their preliminary round bouts. At 120 pounds, Chaston Womack fell to Jake Hiles of Coal City by Decision, 7-0. At 126 pounds, Jarrett Pasley fell to Christian Reynolds of Clinton by Decision, 8-0. At 132 pounds, Luke Tessman fell to Trey Hild of Petersburg PORTA by Major Decision 14-2. And at 138 pounds, Trevor Philpot fell to TJ Jezik of Coal City by Decision 6-3.
Championship quarterfinal action will get underway at 8:30am Friday morning with the first round of wrestlebacks to follow. Vandalia Radio will again have updates on our website and social media as the Vandals wrestlers move through the morning. Championship semifinals will then be held Friday night beginning at 7:00pm.
