Main Street between 5th and 6th Streets in Vandalia will officially be a one-way street in the very near future. The change which had been a part of the work to make the 6th Street railroad crossing was officially passed in an ordinance approved by the Vandalia City Council Tuesday night. With the approval of the ordinance, Main Street will become one way between 5th and 6th Streets with traffic traveling eastbound on the road. The change will not take immediately however due to the fact that the change must be published and a period of 10 days after the publishing of the change must go by before the ordinance can be enforced. Public Works Director Marlin Filer also says they may have to wait for the ground to thaw out a little bit as well before new signage can be put up.
In other business at the meeting, the council approved the purchase of a new transmission for the city’s salt truck with estimated cost being between $2500 and $3500. Also the council approved a resolution for a memorandum of understanding between the city and the South Central Regional Planning & Development Commission as the city works towards renewing the enterprise zone which is currently set to expire December 2018.
