(Springfield, IL) — Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan is forming a bipartisan legislative task force to look into whether to revamp the state’s school aid formula. Madigan’s office says the panel will start hearings February 16 and will hear from educators from across the state. Chaired by House Democratic Leader Barbara Flynn Currie, the group will meet through the spring and will draft legislation to ensure school funding is equitable across the state. Chicago school officials say the current formula shortchanges the city’s schools.
