(Chicago, IL) — For racial minorities in Illinois, poverty rates are as much as three times higher than for whites. That’s the main finding of the Heartland Alliance’s new report on the impact of racism on poverty in the state. Their study also found that unemployment rates are often twice has high for minorities than for whites and that the number of Illinois counties that are vulnerable to poverty has risen to 57 from 46 last year.
