(Chicago, IL) — Philip Rock, who served longer than anyone as Illinois Senate President, has died at the age of 78. Rock, a Democrat, represented Oak Park and parts of Chicago’s west side in the General Assembly where he was Senate President for 14 years, from 1979 to 1993. In recent years Rock suffered from Lewy body dementia and died at his home in Chicago last night. Former Governor Jim Thompson called Rock a “great friend” and a “great leader” whose word was his bond.
