(Chicago, IL) — Illinois Senate President John Cullerton announced what he said is his own turnaround agenda, challenging Governor Rauner to support an overhaul of the state’s school funding formula. Cullerton told a City Club luncheon that Illinois‘ funding of education is among the lowest in the nation and shortchanges the districts and students most in need. Cullerton is proposing a new formula that recognizes that poor districts need more money for their schools. As for Chicago, Cullerton vowed not to fix the district’s problems without resorting to bankruptcy.
