(Des Plaines, IL) — The largest statewide provider of social services in Illinois is announcing program closures and staff cuts throughout the state due to the budget impasse. Lutheran Social Services of Illinois says the seven-month-long budget deadlock has severely challenged its ability to provide services, and that it can no longer afford to do so. According to a press release, a total of 30 programs are affected, with more than 750 employment positions being cut. Lutheran Social Services officials estimate it will impact about 47-hundred people receiving services.
