(Chicago, IL) — Now that Illinois vehicle owners are no longer getting reminders from the state to renew their state stickers, one legislator says they should get a grace period before they face fines and tickets. Representative Jaime Andrade of Chicago is sponsoring a bill to give owners 30-days after their stickers expire to get a new one before they face a 20-dollar late fee or a costly ticket. The Secretary of State’s office stopped sending out the reminders last year in a cost-cutting move prompted by the budget impasse. Since then, there’s been a dropoff of renewals.
