(Springfield, IL) — At least 41 Illinois colleges say they’ll stop advancing need-based state grant money students should be getting but aren’t because of the budget stalemate. The Illinois Student Assistance Commission’s survey heard from 84 of the 133 schools that participate in the state’s Monetary Awards Program. Many schools had fronted the anticipated MAP grant money for students in the fall, expecting to recoup the money when lawmakers passed a budget.
