(Springfield, IL) — Illinois is losing residents faster than all but two other states and the harsh winters are one big reason. Separate surveys by the U.S. Census Bureau and United Van Lines both show that one reason the state had a net loss of about 68-thousand people last year is the trend for baby boomers to move to the South or West. The Census Bureau survey found that only New York lost more residents than Illinois last year, while the United Van Lines study found that only New York and New Jersey had higher percentages of people moving away.
