Although still above flood stage, the Kaskaskia River in Vandalia continues to come down. As for last night, the Kaskaskia River in Vandalia was down to 21.6 feet–which is still above the 18 foot flood stage but well below it’s high levels earlier in the week. The river is now forecast to go below flood stage on Saturday afternoon, January 2nd.
Meanwhile, U.S. Route 51 south of Vandalia re-opened to traffic Thursday afternoon—meaning both Routes 40 and 51 are back fully open in Fayette County.
