(Springfield, IL) — People with Illinois drivers licenses may still be able to board planes even after a federal ID law expires next month. The Department of Homeland Security denied the state’s request for an extension on the Real ID Act. Beginning January 10th, state licenses won’t meet all the security requirements to enter most federal facilities. The Illinois Secretary of State’s office doesn’t expect any major changes for at least the next 18-months. Those made include extra screenings.
