(Carlyle, IL) — A grand jury in Clinton County has indicted a former Murray Center nursing home employee. The employee is being charged with criminal neglect in the choking and drowning death of a resident earlier this year. Twenty-five-year-old Christopher Duguay of Alton allegedly caused the death of severely disabled resident Todd Clementz by spraying water into his mouth and throat during an unscheduled shower. Clementz was blind, deaf and mentally handicapped and lived according to a rigid schedule. Prosecutors say that routine was disrupted by Duguay with the shower that witnesses say was punishment for a behavioral outburst.
