In its first year in the tournament, Cumberland will play in the Championship of the St. Elmo Holiday Tournament after just getting by South Central 41-39 Thursday night. After extending a 5-point lead at halftime into a 12-point lead after the 3rd quarter, Cumberland withstood a 19-9 run by South Central in the 4th quarter to hold on for the win. Cumberland will now play in the Championship game Saturday night at 7:30pm. South Central will play in the 3rd place game set for 6:00pm Saturday.
In the first game of the evening, Beecher City-Cowden Herrick got a 71-30 win over the Vandalia Fresh/Soph team to move into the Consolation Championship game on Saturday afternoon at 4:30pm. Vandalia will play in the 7th place game at 3:00pm.
In action tonight at the SEHT, second-seeded St. Elmo-Brownstown will face off with sixth seeded Okaw Valley in the tournament’s second semifinal game at 7:45pm with the winner moving on to face Cumberland in the championship game. In the first game tonight, Mulberry Grove and Ramsey will play in the second Consolation semifinal game.
