(Springfield, IL) — Illinois is in the middle of the pack when it comes to state high school graduation rates. The U.S. Department of Education’s new data show that 86-percent of Illinois high school students graduate, placing the state twentieth in the nation. Breaking down the numbers, 90-point-one-percent of white Illinois students graduate, while 81-point-three-percent of Hispanic students and 77-point-two-percent of African American students get diplomas. The national graduation rate is 82-point-three-percent; Iowa’s 90-point-five-percent is the highest and the District of Columbia’s 61-point-four-percent is the lowest.
