(Chicago, IL) — African-American state lawmakers are calling attention to the fact that the continuing budget impasse means that poor people who are the clients of a variety of social service agencies continue to suffer. They point out that while some state funds are flowing to social service agencies, others have been forced to turn people away because the money isn’t there. Meanwhile, State Comptroller Leslie Munger says legislation passed last week means 18-million-dollars is now available for 62 domestic violence shelters around the state.
