(Springfield, IL) — Governor Rauner has rejected an appeal for clemency on behalf of a man who died while serving a 40-year sentence for a knife assault someone else claims to have committed. Grover Thompson was convicted of the 1981 attack on a Mount Vernon woman, and died in 1996 while serving his sentence. In 2007, convicted serial killer Timothy Krajcir admitted to police on two occasions that he stabbed the woman and those officers testified on Thompson’s behalf at a parole board hearing. Rauner rejected the request for posthumous clemency earlier this month without giving a reason.
