The Brownstown-St. Elmo 8th grade girls reached another milestone to their season, beating St. Anthony 33-26 for the Sectional Championship and also keeping their undefeated season going. After starting the game with a technical called against them for running the wrong way when taking the court for warm-ups, the Bombers overcame a slow offensive first quarter to take a 19-9 lead at the half. That lead would be 11 at the end of the 3rd before the Bombers would withstand an 8-4 run by St. Anthony in the 4th to hold on for the win. Bombers Coach Josh Behrends says it was the big second quarter that really put momentum on their side in the game.
Claire Wilhour led the Bombers in scoring with 14 points while Natalie Oberlink had 8 points. Makenzie Walk and Olivia Campbell each added 4 points. Brownstown-St. Elmo is now 24-0 and will advance to the 8-2A State Tournament in Saturday. They will play Bismarck-Henning at 1p.m. in the quarterfinal round.
