James “Jim” Summers, 75, of Decatur passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2015.
Services will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Unity Baptist Church (Corner of Hwy 185 an Airport Rd, Vandalia, IL 62471; former Temple Baptist Church) with Rev. Pete LeDuc officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00pm, Friday, December 11, 2015 at Hohlt & File Funeral Home (204 N. 4th St. Vandalia, IL 62471) and 1 hour prior to services Saturday at the church. Jim was born December 10, 1939 the son of James Henry Francis Summers and Velma Pearl (Jay) Summers Scholes. He married Linda Durbin on August 11, 1961 in Vandalia. After his service in the US Army, Jim worked for 31 years as a tire builder at the Firestone Tire Plant in Decatur, IL before retiring. He belonged to the ANSAR Shriners of Springfield, IL and Wesley United Methodist Church, Decatur, IL.
Jim is survived by his wife Linda Summers of Decatur; daughter Angela Rigg of Raleigh, NC; son James Summers and wife Amy of Springfield, IL; grandchildren Sydni Rigg, Tyler Rigg, Kayla Summers, and Ashleigh Summers; great grandchildren Braydon and Kinleigh; sisters Jesse Maxine and husband Bob Crager, Janet Alsbury, Cora Scholes, Priscella and husband Max Heiser, and Gloria and husband Carl Sprague; brothers and brothers Danny Scholes, Leonard Scholes, and David Summers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jerry and Jack Summers and sister Wilma Summers, and two infant siblings.
