A new law on the books is one part of the solution to improving Illinois’ business and jobs climate….that’s according to State Senator Kyle McCarter. Senator McCarter says the measure he co-sponsored to reform the state’s unemployment insurance program will benefit both employer and employee.
McCarter says the new law will improve the business climate for a state that has trailed its neighboring states in job creation since the end of the 2008 recession. Key provisions of the reform include denial of unemployment benefits for workers fired for serious misconduct, protecting benefits for laid off older workers who also receive social security, and eliminating a 470 million dollar unemployment tax increase on employers and canceling a 300 million dollar reduction in benefits for laid off workers—both of which were scheduled to take effect next year.
