The Brownstown-St. Elmo 8th grade girl’s basketball team kept their undefeated season going and racked up more hardware in the process, beating host Altamont 45-42 in the 8-2A Altamont Regional Championship game. The Bombers used a 15-2 run in the 2nd quarter to carry a 23-9 lead into the second half. Altamont then cut that lead to 5 in the 3rd quarter and tied the game with just over two minutes left in the 4th. After BSE regained the lead, Altamont would tie the game again with :26 left. A late basket by Natalie Oberlink and a made free throw by Claire Wilhour would give the Bombers the lead for good. BSE Coach Josh Behrends said his team got off to a good start and then did their job overcoming a late Altamont scoring run.
Claire Wilhour led the Bombers in scoring with 18 points while Natalie Oberlink tallied a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Olivia Campbell scored 8 points and Makenzie Walk added 4 points. Brownstown-St. Elmo is now 23-0 on the season and will play in the Effingham St. Anthony Sectional on Wednesday, December 9 at 6:30p.m. Their opponent will be the winner of the St. Anthony Regional Championship game to be played tonight between St. Anthony and Louisville North Clay.
