(Springfield, IL) — Two Libertarian party candidates in Illinois are challenging the state’s ban on campaign contributions from the medical marijuana industry. State Comptroller candidate Claire Ball of Addison and General Assembly candidate Scott Schluter of Marion have filed suit, claiming that the ban violates the First Amendment rights of those in the medical marijuana business. The suit claims that unlike other states with medical marijuana programs, Illinois alone has banned contributions from pot cultivators, dispensaries and their political organizations.
