(Chicago, IL) — A statewide effort to change the way legislative maps are drawn is making headway. More than 400-thousand Illinoisans have signed petitions to put an amendment on next year’s ballot to have an independent commission draw maps, instead of the leaders of the party that happens to be in power. The Independent Maps coalition wants to collect 600-thousand signatures on their petition to put the question to the voters in November 2016.
