Alma Robertson of Altamont made her journey to heaven at 7:25 p.m., Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont at the age of 93.
Alma Mae (Higgs) Robertson was born on Saturday, June 24, 1922 in Mason, IL to John and Francis (Simmons) Higgs. She was the youngest of six children. She married Gerald R. ‘Pete’ Robertson on Christmas Eve in 1940. They were the parents of two daughters, Pat Caldwell and her husband D.R. of Altamont, and Reba M. Fleming and her husband Ron of Houston, Missouri. She was blessed with five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. They are Daren Caldwell and his wife Kim, children Grace and Samantha of Durango, Colorado, Kyle Caldwell and his wife Deidre, children, Quinn and Addison of Norman, Oklahoma, Eric Long and his wife, Sara, daughter, Sophia of Altamont, Dallas Long and his wife Janet, children, Kendall and Joseph of St. Louis, and Angie Long of Houston, Missouri.
She was an active member of Asbury Methodist Church for many years before moving to town and becoming unable to make the drive. She then joined the First United Methodist Church of Altamont where she is currently a member.
Her greatest joy in life, besides her family, was being a helpmate to Pete on the farm. She loved gardening, baking, quilting, and working her many beautiful flower beds.
Her husband, Pete died on Wednesday, July 16, 2003. Also preceding were her parents, brothers, Delmar and Otis Higgs and sisters Carrie Newman, Lucille Kline and Geneva Yingst.
Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont, followed by graveside services at Mahon Cemetery, rural Mason. Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Care Center or the First United Methodist Church both of Altamont.
